CVPO Business

Minutes:  The minutes of the 3/8/07 meeting were approved.

Treasurer's Report:  Available funds of $3,107.68 were reported.  A disbursement of $66.91 was made for the 1st Semester Conference Dinner.

Teacher Grants:  The grants committee presented the teacher funding requests it had received.  $2668.60 in requests were received, however only $1500 was budgeted to be spent on second semester grants, so not all requests could be funded.  The committee recommended that the following requests be approved:

1.       $200 to teacher B. Hallinan for airfare to attend a teaching conference.  The remaining costs of the trip will be provided by Hallinan.

2.       $300 to Link Crew for handbooks, materials, and snacks.

3.       $764 to World Languages Dept. for 4 portable dual cassette recorders.

4.       $87.90 to teacher J. Bunkelman for 2 skulls.

5.       $100 to the Learning Lab for books.

6.       $66.70 to the LRC for critical reading and writing books.

The following requests were recommended not to be approved for the reasons given:

1.       $400 to the Math Dept. for 4 USB remote presenters.  The CVPO has generously funded the Math Dept. in the past.

2.       $100 to the Library for general school supplies.  The Library has also been generously funded in the past.  The CVPO will ask parents to donate these items.

3.       $100 to the Library for surge protectors ($22 each).  The CVPO previously funded 5 surge protectors.  We will ask parents to donate empty printer ink cartridges which the librarians can exchange for surge protectors at a local store.

4.       $200 to the Math Dept. for AAA and AA batteries for graphing calculators and white board markers.  The CVPO will ask parents to donate these items.

The requests were approved as recommended.  It was also approved that if any additional funds become available that these be used to fund the Math Dept. request for remote presenters.

Donations of General School Supplies:  Because of a lack of funds, the following items requested by the Math Dept. and Library were not funded by teacher grants.  The CVPO asks for parent donations of these items.  A collection box will be available in the cafeteria during conferencing on Thursday, April 12 from noon to 8 p.m.  Donated items can also be left in the office.  The items need not be new, only in good working order.

Volunteer News:  Mary Marshall and Mary Frederick will coordinate the conference dinner on Thurs., April 12 from 4:30-5:30 in the staff dining room.  They will purchase lasagna and asked for donations of bread, salad, and dessert.  They also asked for one volunteer each to help serve and clean up.  Mary Marshall can be contacted at 752-3927.

Officers and Chairs for Next Year:  Two key positions will be open in the year after next, so this is an ideal time for new volunteers to start learning these roles alongside the current officeholders.  Sue Johnson (745-5372) will coordinate summer registration for the last time this August and has asked for a co-coordinator.  Roberta Lundeberg (745-5321) will serve as president of the CVPO until June 2008 and has asked for a co-president for the '07-'08 school year.  Please contact Sue or Roberta for more information.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon:  Daryl Thaw announced that the theme will be "Greek Mediterranean Feast."  It will be held on Wednesday, May 9th with two servings at 11:30 and 12:30.  Volunteers are needed to prepare Greek and Mediterranean dishes (we have lots of recipes and suggestions) and to help before, during, and after the lunch.  Please reply if you'd like to prepare food and/or help at the event.

Fundraising:  Kathryn Cleland reported that she is researching and setting up easy fundraising programs such as E-scrip, Max Perks (Office Max), and Albertson's Partner Rewards.  She will compile a list and instructions for use.

Registration:  Cherie reviewed the handout, "Registration 101" which describes the course selection process, answers frequently asked questions, and presents the new course offerings.

"Registration 101" and the course catalog are available on-line at:

http://www.csd509j. net/cvhs/ Academics/ academic. htm

Last week, freshmen, sophomores, and juniors attended presentations geared to help them choose their courses and they should be completing the registration paperwork now.  Parent signatures are required.  Students are encouraged to choose their courses for next year carefully so as to avoid course changes in the fall.  They should also fill in all 5 spots for alternates.

Plans for Next Year- Link Crew:  This is a freshman transition program with senior and junior leadership. Recruitment for Link Crew leaders is going well.  CV is dedicated to helping new students be successful from the moment they enter the school.  Teacher Melissa Harder is developing curriculum for a new Freshman Focus class that will teach students how to be successful in high school as well as include career exploration material.

The eighth grade open house for parents and students will be on Wednesday, April 18th starting with a presentation at 6:45 p.m. in the gym.

Advisor:  Cherie and a team of teachers have attended clinics on advisor programs recently.

A new structure for advisor will be developed this summer and implemented in the fall.

Budget:  Cherie thoroughly reviewed the '07-'08 budget using a handout.  The Local Option Levy greatly improves CV's financial situation; however funding is still not ideal.

Staffing:  Cherie announced that after a lengthy review process, Scott Sanders has been offered the football coach position.

The Assistant Principal position is currently open with many applicants.  A counseling position is also open in the district pool.  No teachers have announced retirement or resignation for next year.  Hiring for new teaching positions will occur before the end of the school year.

Site Council School Improvement Plan (SIP):  Cherie acknowledged and thanked the following parents who have worked this year on the SIP:  Lora Hediger, Kathryn Cleland, Becky Charboneau, Tammy Davis, and Roberta Lundeberg.  Roberta read a draft of the SIP.  The final version will be distributed later and be available on the CV web site.

Mr. CV Pageant:  Wiil be held on Saturday, April 14th at 7 p.m. in the CV auditorium.

Pandemic Flu Presentation:  The Benton County Health Department has offered to give a brief presentation on pandemic flu to the CVPO.  It was decided to delay this until the fall.
