CVPO Business

Meeting began at 11:00 a.m. with welcome and introductions.

Minutes:  The minutes of the 12/11/08 meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s Report: We have available funds of $3529.89 as of 12/31/08 which reflects income of $78.99 ( $30.00 from dues and $48.99 from E-Scrip) in December.  No distributions were made.  Treasurer’s report was accepted.

Teacher grants:  Discussion concerning application/distribution and timing of grants occurred.  Corvallis School Foundation grants application/distribution occurs in October/March and CVPO grants application/distribution to occur in November/April.  Offsetting grants between the Foundation and the CVPO Group would allow for teachers to apply to each of the groups.

A review of the current calendar will be necessary before a change can be made.

CVPO Office Openings:  Volunteers are still needed for the following:  Spring Conference Dinner, Staff Appreciation Luncheon (May), Senior Award Night and the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony.  For those who are interested in volunteering/ chairing these positions, please contact Nanette Armstrong: nyarmstrong@comcast.net.

Correspondence:  we received a Thank You from the Library re:  CVPO grant of
Jump Drives.  The Student Directory has been finished and will be distributed by the end of the week.

Youth Advisory team:  Evan Wu with the State Youth Advisory Team was unable  to attend January’s CVPO meeting, but hopes to attend the February’s meeting.

CV  Excellence Campaign Update:  The campaign has shown success and will continue until the end of the year.  Up until the present, $6350 has been donated directly through the campaign, which is part of $44,795 in total donations to CV during the past six months.  This was made possible by 98 donors, 20 of which were 1St time donors.

E-Scrip:  We’re hoping for more involvement with this free program and anyone who is interested in signing up, please see www.escrip.com.  An additional $48.99 came into the account in December 2008.

Site council:  Our last meeting was cancelled due to snow.  The site council is open to anyone who wishes to attend.  Next meeting will be held January 20 @ 3:30p.m. in the CVHS Library.

School  Speed Zone:  The  speed zone lights have been installed and are now in operation.  Hours of operation are from 7:00a.m.-5:00p.m.  The speed zone lights will also be in effect for special events, games, etc.

Two minute warning Chimes:  A two minute warning chime was added to D block.  The chimes were added to help reduce the number of tardy students.  In the past, 10-15 students were tardy per block.  With the new two minute warning chimes this has been reduced to 1-2  tardy students per block.  There is a possibility of adding a warning chime to C-Block as well.

New Business:  Due to the amount of snow experienced in  December 2008,  we  missed 3 days of school.   We will need to make up 1 snow day.  Our makeup day is scheduled for February 16, President’s Day, which will be a full day of school.

Principal’s Coffee 11:45:

Budget Update:  Cherie Stroud introduced Kathy Rodeman, Corvallis School District’s Business Manager to update us on the latest with budget cuts.  Kathy stressed that we need not be panicked and that the budget should be manageable. She explained that the school district relies on about 88% of it’s funding to come from the state..  Another 7% comes from our 5- year Local Option Levy.  The final 3% comes from the School Improvement Fund Grant. The Governor says we’re in a shortfall at the present time. How does all this affect Corvallis School District as of today? For the Corvallis School District,  $920,000 in cuts will need to be made this school year. In the month of January 2009, the school board will discuss plans for reductions and dates for those reductions.  The district will also be looking for brainstorming ideas from the community and parental involvement during the process.  The CVHS budget projected to be announced in March 2009.
