Committee Reports

*Fall Conference & Conference Dinner:  The Fall Conference & Dinner was well attended.  A few concerns were brought to attention, such as Teacher/Parent scheduling, a time frame for individual scheduled times, (10 minutes vs. unlimited time) and the need for additional volunteers for the Conference Dinner.  A Thank You to Lynn Entrikin for coordinating the Fall Conference Dinner and to the McDonald/Black family for providing the yummy food.  Thank You letters were sent by our Correspondence Secretary, Angie Killen.  Thanks Angie!

*Volunteer Coordinator:  A request went out for volunteers for all CV activities.  Please contact Amy Adamski, CVPO Volunteer Coordinator @ mybrtsz@yahoo.com  if you have an interest in volunteering for upcoming events.

*Art of Imagination Magic Show:  On October 29, 2009 @ the LaSells Stewart Center, a Las Vegas style Magic Show, a school district-wide fundraiser was well attended and $21K was made to benefit the 509j School District.  The illusions and audience participation was excellent.  This is an event one needs to plan on attending in the future.  Thanks to all for this years support and participation!!!

*CV Excellence Campaign /Fundraising Drive:  The second annual CV Excellence Fundraising campaign was launched on October 28th and will run thru December 31st. A call for an end of the year push for donations went out with a goal to support CV’s various needs.  Donations are still needed to fund projects such as a new Sound System for the Gym & School assemblies, Projectors & Screens, repair of the Scoreboard, and purchase of the Humanities Net book Cards.  For CV families and friends who are able to make a financial end of the year donation, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to your favorite activity or program at CVHS.  Make checks payable to Corvallis Public Schools Foundation and be sure to write in CV Excellence, and any program that you wish to donate to.  Please go to the website www.cvexcellence.org for more details.

PARENT & PRINCIPAL COFFEE @ 11:45 WITH CHERIE STROUD

Fall Conferences:  Cherie asked for feedback concerning the Fall Conferences.  Arena style seemed to work quite successful.  Excellent attendance and all seemed to go pretty smoothly.  Some concerns were with Parent/Teacher Scheduled Conferences going over the ten-minute time allotment.  Do teachers/parents need timers?  Should signs be placed on doors stating, “If this is your scheduled time, please knock!  If additional time is needed for discussion, then it would be wise to make another meeting time.  In all, Fall Conferences proved to be successful and accomplished the goal of getting information out as to how students are progressing!

Site Council:  Four new parents and 2 new teachers have joined the Site Council for the 2009-2010 school year.  Meeting went over the AYP, (Annual Year Progress) Report and to set the CVHS school goals for this year.  Site Council meets once a month on the third Tuesday of the month.  The Site Council is open to anyone who wishes to attend.

2009-2010 School Budget:  BRACE YOURSELF…No bad news for this current year!  Cherie relayed the information of not expecting any mid year reductions for this year but not as certain for next year.  Two recent mandates, one state and one federal, will require additional financial resources but have not awarded school districts extra funds to do so.  The 1st mandate is the new Oregon Graduation Requirements.  All high school graduates must meet skills in reading, writing and math by passing the Oregon Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (OAKS) or by receiving an acceptable score on a standardized test such as a ACT, SAT, or PSAT test.  The 2nd mandate is the new graduation requirement from “The No Child Left Behind” legislation, which requires all high school students to earn a high school diploma within four years from the first day they enter high school.   For the school, this means if a student takes longer than 4 years to complete high school, or a student who completes a GED, will be counted as a dropout.

Most schools are funded from three main sources.  They are the following:  The General Fund (state school fund formula), Local Option Levy approved by local voters and Federal Stimulus Dollars.

In December 09, CV families will have the opportunity to complete a survey regarding what priorities parents have concerning the reduced budget for next year.

·        Measure 66 & 67:  A brief discussion was held concerning what effect the passage or defeat of Measure 66 & 67 would have on schools.  For more information, please contact Katherine Cleland, Fundraising Chair @tkcleland@yahoo.com
