Committee Reports

*Foreign Exchange Program: Students from Nichidai School in Tokyo, Japan visit CVHS every other year. This is the year! Janet Johnson is looking for host families for the exchange students.  They arrive Sunday, March 28 and return home to Japan on Saturday April 3rd.  They will attend classes at CV during the day.  If you are willing to open your home to the students for this very short time, please contact Janet at 541-745-6302 or by email at djab1234@msn.com

*Senior all night party:  Janet Johnson is looking for volunteers to work all or part of the party which will be held at the Dixon recreation center from 10:30 pm - 5:30 am on June 14th. She is asking parents of under-classmen to work during the early evening hours to allow senior parents to attend graduation events.  Please contact Janet if you would like to help out (see contact info above).

*Beautification committee:  National Honor Society will hold a “Trash Bash” on March 5th to help clean up the school.  Also, in response to a request for volunteers to join the committee, two parents who love to garden said they would help.  Kristin Emminger said she had Iris bulbs to donate to the school from her garden.   It was noted that the trophy cases are standing empty and that it would be nice to showcase all the many awards that CV has earned.  Members of the committee will tour the school to determine what other projects can be taken on to help make the school look it’s best. If interested in this committee, contact Nanette Armstrong at 541-753-1978 or nyarmstrong@comcast.net.

*CV Excellence Campaign /Fundraising Drive:  The second annual CV Excellence fundraising campaign, which was launched on October 28th and concluded on December 31st , raised almost $9,000.00.  The music department received $3,700.00 towards the purchase of acoustical panels used during choir performances.  Funds will also be used towards funding projects such as a new sound system for the gym & school assemblies, projectors & screens, repair of the scoreboard, and purchase of a computer cart for the Humanities Department and Netbooks for the Science Department.  It is never too late to make a tax-deductible contribution to your favorite activity or program at CVHS.  Make checks payable to CV Excellence, on the memo line please specify, if desired, which program(s) you wish to donate to.  Please go to the website www.cvexcellence.org for more details.

*Corresponding secretary:  A note of thanks was received from the library book room for materials to repair book bindings and from the anatomy and sports medicine teacher who received blood pressure cuffs and a full size skeleton.  The purchases were made using CVPO grant monies.

*Calendar committee: A committee comprised of district employees, superintendents, principals, teachers, classified staff and parents is putting together recommendations for the board regarding upcoming school year calendars.  Currently school starts after Labor Day and there is discussion of moving the start date to before Labor Day.  Also, rather than having full day staff development days spread far apart, there is discussion of having half day development days more regularly.  This gives the staff a chance to touch base with each other more effectively.  Note:  there are currently no plans to reduce the number of school days on the calendar.

Site Council:  Nanette Armstrong reported that 2 teachers have applied to teach two new classes:  Social Studies – The World through Literature and Film and We the People – Project Citizen.  There is also talk of a Culinary Arts program coming sometime in the next two years.  Also, in order to make the school feel more welcoming, staff photos will be on display outside the office much like outside a doctor’s office.  Site Council meets the third Tuesday of the month, 3:15 in the CV library.  The Site Council is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
