CVPO BUSINESS
Meeting began at 11:00am with welcome and introductions.
SECRETARY’S REPORT/MINUTES: The secretary presented the minutes of May 14, 2009, with clarification that CVPO membership fees went from $15 in the 2008-09 school year to the current amount of $20 in the 2009-10 year. It was also noted that membership fees were strictly voluntary and that all parents were members of the CVPO. The minutes were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: The Treasurer reported that we have available funds of
$2,276.78, which reflects income of $329.78 from E-scrip for the months of May-August 2009. A disbursement in the amount of $207.66 for the Staff Appreciation Lunch ($107.66) and Staff Retirement Gifts ($100) was made in May 2009. The Treasurer’s report was accepted and approved.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
STUDENT DIRECTORY: The Student Directory will be on CV’s website for 2009-10. A limited number of hard copies will be available in October. Please check with Linda Alderman in the CV Office for a limited number of available copies for the 2008-09 Directory.
CVPO 2008-09 YEAR END BUDGET SUMMARY & PROPOSED 2009 10 BUDGET:
A year- end summary of the 2008-09 budget was reviewed. In addition, a budget summary was provided for the years 2006 – 2008. A Preliminary Budget for 2009-10 was approved in May of 2009 and a Final Budget was proposed today per a vote of members present, the Final Budget was approved for the 2009-10.
A question of, “Where and for what are the CVPO membership fees used for?” It was reported that all monies were used in the support of the Crescent Valley Community, for CV Teacher Grants that are given twice a year, to benefit students in the classroom, for printed communication with parents, and for all other CVHS functions that the CVPO supports.
VOLUNTEER & COMMITTEE CHAIRS:
We are still requesting volunteers to chair or volunteer for certain committees for upcoming events. A list will be given to the Volunteer Coordinator and will be circulated thru the Raider News for those interested in serving as a Committee Chair/ or Volunteer. It was mentioned that the upcoming Open House was possibly the “best event to see and attend”, for upcoming volunteer opportunities. List-serv will also send out a request for help with volunteers concerning upcoming events. For those parents wishing to volunteer at Crescent Valley, a Criminal Background Check &History Report will need to be filled out and filed every year. There are over 250 parents that volunteer at Crescent Valley High School. Please see Linda Alderman in the Main CV office to obtain these forms.
CV RAIDER CARDS:
CV Raider Cards are still available to purchase for $20/card. These cards are a fundraising event for the support of the CV Football team. They provide yearlong discounts at local businesses to cardholders. In addition, at home football games, card numbers will be drawn to award prizes to cardholders. These prizes will be from local businesses, restaurants, free food at the CV concession stand, etc. On October 30th, 2 quarters of organically grown beef will be awarded as a grand prize. SO GO RAIDERS…GO OUT AND BUY THOSE RAIDER CARDS IN SUPPORT OF OUR FOOTBALL TEAM!!!
E-SCRIP:
Currently there are 100+ members registered forE-Scrip linkage to CV for the 2009-10 school year. We encourage everyone to sign up for E-Scrip and to help in our fundraising for the CV Community. For other ways to get involved in fundraising, Office Max will donate Max Perks to CV’s Principal’s Fund, 1St Alternative will donate membership share to CV’s Principal’s Fund, and Albertson’s will donate to CV’s Booster Club. CV’s Excellence Program is a Direct Donation campaign, which allows for yearlong fundraising opportunities.
CORRESPONDENCE REPORT:
Mr. Howell, a Math Teacher with CV sent a Thank You note for the 5 Graphing Calculators, which were donated to the Math Department last year. A Thank you note from the Teachers for the Teachers Appreciation Day was also received.
PARENT & PRINCIPAL COFFEE @ 11:45 WITH CHERIE STROUD
Cherie welcomed and introduced all parents in attendance. It was reported that the actual student enrollment at Crescent Valley is 1055 students which is 33 less than projected. District wide projections for starting enrollment also fell. A breakdown of class sizes at Crescent Valley shows the Freshman class being the largest, with 332 students, Sophomores at approximately 280 students, Juniors at approximately 280 students and Seniors at 208 students. Cherie reported that 230 Seniors graduated last year.
CRESCENT VALLEY STADIUM GRANDSTANDS:
The Football Grandstands are finished and will be in use for the Football and Soccer seasons. Some areas are not available for use, such as the hydro seeded areas as these areas can not be walked on. The Stadium will be full for Fall Games. The Visitors Side will be on the same side as the Home Team side. Crescent Valley is looking into the building cost of having a Visitors Side Grandstands at approximately $75,000 . We are hoping to get Corporate Sponsorship for these. The cost of the Bleachers, (recycled ) came in at $382,000.
SWINE FLU REPORT:
Letters came home with Students this past Monday. Information is also available at the CV Website. There have been no positive cases identified in the District at this time. In the event of an outbreak among Teachers at 40% or more, a list of Substitute Teachers has been compiled. Vaccinations for Swine Flu will not be available until Mid October
as supplies are limited. Health Care Personnel will be vaccinated first and then the general population.
Flu Preparedness Sheet-8/27/09
If your student feels like they have the flu…stay home!
If you get the flu, you should not return to school or work until at least 24 hours after your fever of 100 degrees + is gone without taking fever reducing medicine.
The CDC and Oregon Health officials are predicting the H1N1 flu may lead to absentee rates this fall of up to 40% in schools and workplaces. Please use prevention and follow guidelines to prevent further complications.
ANNUAL YEARLY PROGRESS REPORT:
CRESCENT VALLEY did not pass this report based a few students not taking the test. The area of concern was in the Math Target Group with a participation percentage of 94.4%. It was reported that if anyone of the Schools in the district failed, the entire District fails. A total of 3 schools in our district did not meet the standard, all for different reasons. Crescent Valley’s averages exceeded the State’s benchmark.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Cherie welcomed parents to attend conferences. Crescent Valley is also looking at finding efficient ways of holding these conferences. It has been discussed holding them in Classrooms, Library, Cafeteria, or a combination of locations. Parent-Teacher conferences are being held in Late October in the Cafeteria/Classroom, both scheduled and Arena conference style. Arena Conferences will be held on October 29th in the Cafeteria from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Scheduled Classroom conferences will be held the next day, October 30th from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.
It was reported there would be no OPEN HOUSE for spring term as it was not well attended last year.
