Minutes: The minutes of the
Treasurer’s
Report: Available funds of $1,205.58
were reported. Disbursements of $1,918.60
were made for the second semester teacher grants. Income of $16.50 from the “Cartridges for
Kids” fundraiser was reported. An
additional $400, which was budgeted but unspent for the two conference dinners,
was spent to fund the math department grant request for 4
Correspondence: Thank you cards and e-mails were received
from several individuals and groups that received CVPO grant funds recently,
including the world languages dept., the Link Crew program, Brooke Hallinan,
Heather Zimmers for the math dept., and the students, staff, volunteers, and
peer tutors of the learning lab.
Announcements: The following communications from the
district were circulated:
1.
Public testimony
regarding the budget will be taken at the May 21 meeting. The Budget
Committee will deliberate at its May 29 meeting and may choose to approve tax
levies and forward the budget to the school board. More information regarding the budget can be

2. Update on the 509J Community Visioning

Volunteer
News: From Rosalind Blair, “I am the coordinator
for the gift wrap fundraiser for the senior all night party for this year's
class and now need to find a replacement parent for that. The gift wrap
part of it starts this summer and ends in November and so I need to have
contact info for the new incoming person to pass along to the Sally Foster
representative in the next few weeks for planning of sale dates etc.” Contact Rosalind at rbildfell@comcast.net.
Look for an upcoming request from the library
for helpers during June textbook return.
This is a big multi-day job and many volunteers are appreciated.
Food donations
were requested for the upcoming Career Fair to be held on Wednesday, May 23rd
in the cafeteria from
Officers
and Chairs for Next Year: Two key positions
will be open in the year after next, so this is an ideal time for new
volunteers to start learning these roles alongside the current officeholders. Sue Johnson
Principal Topics
Art Fest: Will be held on Wednesday, May 30th during D block. This annual event is a showcase of the arts at CVHS. Keith Moses is coordinating the event this year and parents are welcome to attend. In the evening of the 30th, there will be an orchestra concert at CV, but no other evening Art Fest events are planned.
Staffing: Cherie announced that Ayesha Freeman will serve
as Assistant Principal next year. She is
from Mt. View HS in
Michael
Helle and Ted Calcaterra have been hired as permanent staff members (from
temporary status). The hiring process is
on-going for teachers in the math, science, social studies, language arts, and
world language departments. Cherie
expects those appointments to be made by the end of May.
Course
Projections: Due to the passage of the local option levy,
academic class size projections are down significantly. Average class sizes for all grades next year
are:
English: 26 students
Math: 26 students
Science: 26 students
Social
Studies: 29 students
This
year all the core academic classes have class size averages in the 30’s.
Other
highlights:
1. The Freshman Focus class will have 3 sections
and 78 total students.
2. The Journalism class will have 25 students
and this class will publish the school newspaper.
3. Marine Science will have two sections.
4. There will be two sections each of year-long
algebra and geometry.
Communication
Plan: Roberta polled the parents present on how
they preferred to receive information from the school and overwhelmingly e-mail
was preferred. The district and

Teaching and Classroom Management: Sparked
by a parent question, discussion was held on this topic. Parents wanted to know what requirements and
structures were in place when student teachers are teaching at CV. Cherie stated that CV hosts student teachers
from several colleges and universities, and that these programs have different
requirements and schedules, but that the classroom teacher has the ultimate
responsible for management of the class.
