AP
US History
Look
over the list of questions below and note the question for the next chapter test.
Find
a primary source document
that would be relevant in answering this question. Good sources of documents
can be found on the Documents page of the class website.
Attach a copy of the document. If the document is
more than one page long, simply attach a one-page excerpt of the passage you
are analyzing. Be sure to include the title and date of the document along with
the URL.
Next
follow the steps for document analysis outlined in the APMS procedure. This is available on the
Essays page of the website. For Significance, look at the relevant question for
the next chapter test from the list of questions below. This should take a
third to a half a page.
Then
write a body paragraph
that would work well for an essay answering the question. Use the document as
specific supporting evidence. You might quote briefly from the document (no
more than a line) and blend that quotation into your paragraph (see Quotation
Incorporation Paragraph on the Essays page of the class website), or you might paraphrase
the document without quoting it. (For guidance on paraphrasing, see Avoiding
Plagiarism on the Essay page of the class website.) In either case, be sure to
have an in-text citation
for this primary source. (To check the format for in-text citations, see Citing
Sources in How to Write an AP US History Essay on the Essays page of the class
website.)
The
total length for the APMS section and the paragraph should be about a page.
Longer is fine.
You
may do one extra credit document analysis for each test.
Please
type (double-space).
This
is due at the time of the test. Of course, it is fine to turn this in early.
Each
analysis is worth a maximum of ten points for an excellent paper and fewer
points for a paper that is less than excellent.
