Announcements
Writing: Students will be starting a writing unit on figurative language this week. Ask your child what they are learning in class!
Math Facts: We are currently working on reviewing math facts in class, which is assessed with a weekly math facts quiz. You may want to check with your child to see if they need to review multiplication or division facts, or see if they have been assigned math facts homework.
Scholastic Book Orders: Scholastic book orders for February were sent home on January 30th. The orders are due by February 29th. A copy of the letter from Scholastic about ordering online can be found here.
Booktalks: Students are currently working on their Booktalk for February. Students have until February 29th to complete this assignment. You can find a copy of the Booktalk handout here.
Science: We have started our Variables unit in science. Currently we are experimenting with pendulums.
Social Studies: We are currently learning about the Midwest States (4th grade), and Explorers (5th grade).
Upcoming Events:
-February 3: Grading Day, NO SCHOOL
-February 9: Jog-A-Thon, 8:25am, Adams Gym
-February 10: Adams Spirit Day...wear your Adams gear to school!
-March 26-30: Spring Break, NO SCHOOL
Homework
-Packets were sent home on Monday, February 6th, and will be due on Friday morning, February 10th.
Homework consists of:
-Reading 20m. a night (Monday through Thursday), and recording it on the Reading Log
-Spelling: This week's list is titled Prefixes and Suffixes
*Challenge List: for students who got 16 or more correct out of 20 on Monday's spelling pre-test:
-each spelling word (on the challenge list) needs to be copied twice, put in alphabetical order, and
put into sentences too
*Regular List: for students who got 15 or less correct out of 20 on Monday's spelling pre-test:
-p. 109-111, reading practice book
-TFK: The Road to the White House (timeline), and Quiz...students will need the TFK from 1/13, which
is being sent with this week's packet
-Packets should be stapled together
-Parent signature on the Reading Log

-Unit 4: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. Right now we are learning about multiplying and dividing fractions
-Homework: p. 355 Houghton-Mifflin math textbook, adding fractions with unlike denominators...assigned on Monday, January 6th due on Friday, February 10th
