The Humanities course covers:
Language Arts: Literature and reading skills, speech preparation and delivery, writing in a variety of modes, writer’s workshop, and vocabulary development. The assigned textbook for this class is Elements of Literature.
Social Studies: A study of the Revolutionary War through the Civil War and Reconstruction. We will also cover the Constitution, the law, and government. The assigned textbook for this class is History Alive: The United States through Industrialism. You are responsible for bringing your textbook to class.

· I want us all to feel safe and accepted in this classroom. Additionally, I expect my students to follow all school and district rules.
Consequences for negative behavior:
· Verbal Warning
· Modification: this could be a seat change, time out in the hallway, or a discussion with Ms. Cadotte.
· Detention
· Referral and parent contact
· These are also up to the discretion of Ms. Cadotte or a substitute. The consequence will be determined by the nature or frequency of the broken expectation.

Grading Scale
· A= 90% to 100%
· B= 80% to 89%
· C= 70% to 79%
· D= 60% to 69%
· F= 59% and below
Absences and Make-up Work
· If you are absent for any reason, collect make-up work on the day of your return. Make-up work will be due the next day for a one-day absence or two days for a two-day absence.
· For longer unplanned absences, your parents may call the office for homework requests.
· If you are going to have a planned, extended absence, see Ms. Cadotte.
Late Work
· Assignments turned in more than one day late will receive a 50% credit reduction.
· Grades will be posted every two weeks. Late assignments should be turned in no later than Friday, one week following the posting of grades. After that week, the assignment will receive a 0.
Bathroom/Locker Policy
· Please take care of your bathroom needs before class.
· At the beginning of each quarter, you will receive two bathroom/locker passes. If you need to leave the classroom, ask permission and turn in one of your bathroom/locker passes. This will be attached to your signed pass. DO NOT LOSE your two passes! You will not be issued new ones.
Tardies/Unprepared:
· You are expected to be in your seats when the bell rings, prepared to start class.
· After 3 tardies or 3 unprepared, you will earn a noon detention.
· Each tardy/unprepared after 3 is another referral.
