·         Roll lines and stretches – they can keep basketball beside them

·         After stretches, back to wall and review – then introduce the remainder of the critical elements – athletic base, don’t fall forward or back and body square to basket.

·         Cover the SET SHOT (Skills test items are bolded)

1.      Good athletic stance – extend up with legs on the shot

2.      Eyes should be focused on the basket before, during, and after the shot

JUGGLING

  • Rules:

    • Don’t pick at the tape
    • Do not throw the juggling balls
    • Don’t bounce juggling balls off rough surfaced walls
  • Tips:
    • Start by sitting in front of a wall with legs out and spread
    • If you juggle balls outward, juggle in front of and close to a wall
    • Look up at the top of the juggle during the juggle
    • Throw the next ball when the one you threw is at the highest point
  • Juggling progression
    • Level 0:
      • Student throws ball in order to opposite hand, but is catching them before the throw
    • Level 1:
      •  Student makes one exchange---Throw, throw, catch
    • Level 2:
      • Student makes two exchanges---Throw, throw, throw, catch
    • Level 3:
      • Student continuously juggles

Tricks

  1. Cascading
  2. Underneath
  3. Circle juggling
  4. Wall juggling
  5. Two in one hand
  6. Two in one hand, one going up in middle
  1. Under leg trick
  2. Behind back throw
  3. Behind back catch
  4. Behind neck catch
  5. Partner juggling (each using one hand)
  6. Partner juggling 3, 4, 5, or 6 balls

Routines:

  • Students can practice and develop several skills and tricks into a routine that can be shared with the class at the end of the unit

Target Heart Rate Lesson

Last day in the Mat Room

Track and field

Brief overview on my use of  Cooperative Learning

Track Day 1

  1. Check marks
  2. Stride usually remain the same
  3. If steps are too far forward or back
  4. Take‑off board and what is a scratch
  5. Method of obtaining steps
  1. Approach – Run should be an acceleration with the last few strides a maintaining of the sprint. Check marks are used to prevent chopping the stride.

  2. Take‑off – Similar take‑off as the high jump.  The next to last stride is a longer or settling stride preparing for the gather or lift.  The last stride is shorter and the take‑off foot hits in a heel to toe action.  The free leg drives up so the upper thigh is parallel the ground.

  3. Flight – 45 degree angle at take‑off.  Hitch Kick – A running action in the air or Hang –Hips forward, arms and legs back

  4. Landing – Good leg extension is important.  It’s also important for the arms to drive forward.  You can either do the Rear end between the feet or Rear end to the side

Track and Field Day 2

Track and Field Day 3

  1. Warm‑up arms by throwing to each other in your teams

  2. Throw in teams to see who you want to throw in the track meet

  3. One teammate stays in field to mark throw, take turns

  4. Student in field retrieving ball counts cone to tell thrower how far they threw

  5. Teams meet and discuss who had farthest throw

Track and Field Day 4

Track and Field Day 5

  1. Grip – Shot sets in the fingers (Basket like)
  2. Shot is placed on the neck under the jaw bone underneath the ear
  3. Stand sideways to throw to “put”
  4. From a standing up position, dip down and turn and lean backwards as non‑throwing hand touches shoe farthest  away form throwing direction, causing a torque motion
  5. Drive up in a forward and 45 degree motion driving non arm up forcefully
  6. Legs drive forcefully up while body torque’s, releasing discuss at a 45 degree angle
