Automotive Educational Fund Scholarship – Twenty scholarships available ranging from $500 to $2000 for a senior who plans to attend a 2 or 4 year college and pursue a career in the automotive industry. Details and application at: www.automotivehalloffame.org  .  Deadline: 5/30/08.

 

American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Volunteer Recognition Scholarship- $300 award for a senior who has been a player and/or volunteer in AYSO and exemplifies the mission and philosophies of AYSO.  Short essay on the topic “What have you gained from your experiences in AYSO” required. Pete Brooks Scholarship - $2500 maximum for a senior who will be attending U of O School of Business next year. Deadline 5/15/08.

 

Coca-Cola Scholars Program- Awards 350 $1000 scholarships for seniors planning to attend a two-year institution.  Nomination needed from two-year institution.  LBCC contact is John D. Snyder, Dir. Financial Aid.

Kiwanis Student Recognition Program- 2 Awards Student of the Quarter and Most Improved Student.  www.kiwaniscorvallis.org.   Applications available.  Deadlines:  5/21/2008.

 

Knights of Columbus Scholarship – $500 scholarship is for any type of post high school education. Deadline: 6/1/08.

 

Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Award – Up to $4400 awarded per person to a high school senior who has been admitted to one of the 47 designated historically black public universities, with a 3.0 GPA, and a minimum of 1600 SAT (or 25 ACT).  Details available at www.thurgoodmarshallfund.org . Applications available from the TMCF Scholarship Coordinator on the college campus you have been accepted to. Deadline: 7/1/2008.

 

National Association of College Admission Counseling – is offering seven $1000 scholarships to a college-bound junior or senior.  Submit an essay for the ‘Journal of College Admission’ on a topic related to college-transition.  Details available at www.nacacnet.org/MemberPortal/News/Journal  .  Deadline: 9/01/08

 

Northwest Career Colleges Federation “Careers that work!” Scholarship- Three $1000 scholarships for nominated CHS seniors to numerous private career/trade colleges (these include the art institutes of Portland and Seattle, DigiPen Institute of  Technology, Evergreen Beauty and Barber College, among others) in Idaho, Oregon and Washington.  Details and career college list available at www.nwcareercollege.org/scholarships.html.  To be nominated, prepare a short resume and make an appointment with Nancy Shaffer in Beyond CHS. Deadline: 6/20/2008.

 

Oregon State Bar Association Essay Contest- $500, $350 and $250 prizes for persuasive essay contest winners.  Theme and background case law provided for students.  Deadline (essays must be RECEIVED on or before) 5/10/08.

 

Phi Book Scholarship- $500 per semester scholarship for a senior male who will attend an Oregon State University and will be a founding member of Alpha Kappa Lambda.  More details available in Beyond CHS.  Deadline: 6/15/08.

 

Philomath Volunteer Firefighters Community Scholarship Fund- $500 scholarships available for college tuition to graduating seniors who live within the Philomath Fire District and have a GPA greater than 2.75.  Preference is given to students who aspire to a career in fire services or medicine.  Details available in Beyond CHS.  Deadline 6/1/2008.

 

Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship- For senior males planning on attending OSU this fall.  There are two $1000 scholarships & four $500 scholarships.  Apply online at www.osu-spe.com.  Applications available.  Deadline: 6/15/2008.

 

Kip Smith Young Writer’s Award- Cash prize $750.  Writing samples required. Deadline: 5/16/2008.

 

PROGRAMS and OPPORTUNITIES

Corvallis Parks and Recreation- Are you looking for a summer job?  Youth ages 14 – 16 can apply for paid positions earning $7.95/hour.  June 16 –20 is mandatory for orientation. Three four week sessions are available from June 16 – Aug 29.  Applications available in Beyond CHS or on-line at www.ci.corvallis.or.us or at the Park and Recreation office (1310 SW Avery Park Dr).

 

Girl Scouts Camp Cleawox Summer Resident Camp- Various positions (as Unit Counselor, Program Specialist, Cook, Kitchen Aide) available.  Salaries range from $1200 – $2300 for camp, dates June 13 – August 20, 2008.  Additional information available at www.wrgirlscouts.org.  Deadline: Now hiring – positions fill quickly.

OSU Summer Experience in Science and Engineering for Youth (SESEY)- For high school girls and minorities who have completed grades 9, 10, 11, with an aptitude in math to provide exposure to careers in engineering.  Thirty students to be selected, program runs one week: July 13 – 18, 2008.  Program fee is $150, which covers room and board.  Scholarships are available.  Applications available at http://cbee.oregonstate.edu/sesey/applications.htm  Deadline: 6/2/2008.
