Team Penning:
In an arena, there are 30 cows at one end, numbered from 0
through 9. There are three number 0's, three number 1's, etc. Three riders enter
the other end of the arena and proceed to the start line. When the timekeeper
calls to start the event, the riders are given a number, 5 for example. They
then have to remove all three number 5's from the herd and move them down to the
other end of the arena and put them into a pen. The team with the quickest time
wins the event.
Showmanship:
Showmanship is a series of turns, such as fore hand and haunch turns. It also consists of trotting, standing square, and setting up for inspection.
Trail:
The maneuverability of the horse through
an obstacle course is judged in trail class competitions. The course is
designed with numerous obstacles, testing the skill of the horse to handle
certain situations which might happen
on an outdoor trail ride. One of the mandatory obstacles is for the rider to
open, pass through and close a gate. The
other two mandatory obstacles are walking, jogging or loping over a series of
logs and backing through logs placed
in a L, U, or V-shaped configuration. Other obstacles may include crossing a
small pond or ditch; taking items from a mailbox and placing them back; crossing
over a wooden bridge; and putting on a rain slicker. Scoring is based on
the horse's willingness, ease and grace in negotiating the course
In Hand Trail:
The only difference between in hand
trail and trail is that with in hand trail you are leading your horse, on the
ground, through everything. And your horse must not be able to be ridden.
