The Spartans

1970- Spartans have Valley league title. Defeat sunset 42-12 in the quarter finals, and Pendleton 20-14 in the semifinals to set the rematch with Medford in the finals. Spartans win first ever state championship on the frosted field at Parker stadium 21-10.
1972- South Albany, Crescent Valley and Sprague open new schools and enter the valley league. Spartans claim league title. CHS defeats Hillsboro 42-14 in the quarter finals.
1974- Spartans win league title. Defeat No. 1 ranked Beaverton in quarter finals 38-24 and advance to state championship by beating Lake Oswego in the semifinals 22-17. CHs loses to LaGrande 26-7 in the finals.
1977- Spartans post at 8-1 regular season mark losing to Churchill 10-7 in the playoffs.
1978- Spartans go a perfect 9-0 to win league title and steamroll through the Playoffs defeating Benson 42-7, Dallas 42-13, and Medford 13-12 to advance to the state championship game. Spartans claim second state title at Parker stadium beating Roseburg 21-14. Solberg takes coaching position at OSU ending his 10-year career at CHS with a record of 83 wins and 22 losses and 2 state championships
1979- Gary Beck new head football coach. McKay enters the Valley league. Spartans win league title. Advance to state championship after defeating Tigard 21-14, Gresham 42-27 Cottage Grove 34-6 and Grants pass 21-20. Spartans convert on two-point play in the fourth Quarter to capture their second consecutive state championship 15-14 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene.
