1980-1989
The Spartans
1980- CHS wins third straight Valley league title. Spartans defeat Sweet Home 29-9 and Churchill 23-6 in the playoffs. Lose to Beaverton 34-26 in the quarterfinals. Spartans 11-game winning streak stopped.
1981- CHS advances to playoffs with a 7-2 regular season mark. Defeat Jefferson 48-18 and Pendleton 34-16 in the first two rounds of the playoffs. Loses in quarterfinals to Sunset 27-20 in tree overtimes
1982- CHS advances to playoffs with a 7-2 regular season mark. Beats Dallas 21-0 in opening round of the playoffs before losing to Medford 42-14.
1983- Spartans begin year 2-2 and finish regular season with a 7-2 record good for third place in the league. Open with playoff victories over Oregon city 19-10 and Klamath Union 12-0. Defeat Gresham in the quarter finals 31-7 and avenge an earlier defeat to South Salem 33-14 in the semifinals. CHS claims its fourth state championship in 14 years defeating Lake ridge 24-7 in Civic Stadium in Portland.
1984- CHS claims league title with regular season record of 9-0. Opens with playoff victories over North Eugene 15-7 and Milwaukee 27-21 in two overtimes. Loses to Crook County in quarterfinals 23-7.
1985- Spartans win league title again going undefeated in league play. Defeat North Eugene 48-21 in opening playoff game before being upset by Mt. View 15-14 in Bend.
1986- Spartans win third straight league crown with an 8-1 record. Defeated by Lebanon 17-14 in overtime snapping a CHS 29 game league winning streak. Open playoffs with three consecutive shutouts beating Cleveland 21-0, Canby 21-0, and Tigard 3-0. Defeat lake ridge 28-21 in the semifinals to advance to their 8th state championship game in the last 23 years. Loses to Glenco in finals 17-7.
1987- CHS closes season at 4-5. First losing season since 1968. McNary defeats CHS for the first time ever since joining the Valley league in 1965.
