CHS Ski Team
Welcome!
We're glad you're interested in being part of ski team. Recently, a ski team
alumnus, when asked for advice about how to be happy and successful in high
school, answered, "Join ski team!" The long hours of work and play unite
skiers into a great group. Besides, ski racing is fun and exciting.
Can't
ski well? Can't ski at all? No problem. Our great coaching staff will
teach you how, and before you know it you’ll be zooming down the slopes!
This is a great way to start a lifelong sport.

About Emerald
League
High school ski teams, like golf teams, have not been part of OSAA for many
years. Ski teams are united in the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Race
Association, which is divided into 7 leagues across the state. Ours is the
Emerald League, and covers the territory from Roseburg to Salem, west of the
Cascades. Six league races are held, with an additional practice race, or
time trials, at the beginning of the season. Two types of races are run –
slalom (SL, gates close together) and giant slalom (GS, gates farther
apart). Downhill and Super G are not considered safe for high school racers
because of the speed. Safety is a big part of ski racing and helmets must
be worn at all times during races and practice.
