We have a strong little track team this spring which has won places
in every meet yet entered. Captain Felton has had the boys at work all
spring and they have been out, rain or shine. In the Columbia indoor meet
they tied with the Washington High of Portland for third place and the
latter holds second place in the contest for Pacific Coast High School
Championship, so it may be seen that we have a track team not to be
scorned.

The Juniors are the class champions on the field. In the interclass
meet they carried off fifty-five points, the Sophomores came second with
forty-four and the Freshmen third, with thirty-six. The Juniors were pre-
sented with a maroon and blue banner as their reward. This was hung in
the assembly room where it can be seen by all those visiting our school.
Captain Felton, our man for the 440-yard run, is new in the game and
lacks the experience, yet he is fast and there is time for his development.
At the Columbia inddor meet Felton did well for a beginner and was only
beaten by men who had been at the work for several years.
Everett Moses is our star, having been at work on the track for four
years as a sprinter, hurdler and broad jumper. During these years he has
often been a winner. In the Columbia meet he carried off second place in
both the 50-yard dash and the 50-yard high hurdles.

Lloyd Farmer is another man who has been at work for a number of
years. He tied the High School record in the high jump and lacked one
inch of qualifying for the final in the Columbia indoor meet. He fell short
of qualifying for the pole vault for some unknown reason. He had cleared
the bar at home several inches above where he failed there, but the school
knows that he will make up for it before the year is over.

Pugh and King are respectively mile and half mile men. This is their
first year on the track and not much can be expected from them. they
both show good form and can look forward to a time when they can carry
off first in High School meets.

Bonner and Adams are two other men for running and showing up well
in practice. Bonner has had some experience and has earned a place on the
team. This is the first year for Adams, yet he handles himself well and
will probably make a good showing in some of the spring meets.
The team will go to Eugene to the interscholastic High School meet
and the U. of O. on the 10th and 11th of May. They will also enter the
O.A.C. interscholastic meet on May 17th and 18th. We expect the boys
to make even better a showing in these meets than they made at Columbia
and the school is willing to support them to the last.
