The Corvallis high school track team always faces the hard task
of finding enough
competition to put them into shape before the big meets, -the
Oregon relay carnival,
and OSC state track meet.
In the U of O relays, the Corvallis high track team took three
places - third in
the mile relay, fourth in the distance medley relay and
"Sunshine" Joslin threw the shot
far enough to get a third in the shot-put.
At the track meete sponsored by the Eugene high school, Corvallis
placed second
against Salem with 84.5 to 68.5 points.
Up to May 9, the outstanding men of the 1928 season seemed to be:
Captain James
Buchanan, half miler; Carrol Linvingston, miler; Bob Prentiss,
hurdles; MartinSheythe,
100 and 220 man; Joslin, shot-putter; Adams, 440 man.
Prospects for next year are not very good, as the team will lose
Captain Buchanan,
Lewis, Prentiss, and Wagner. The loss of Buchanan will be felt
especially hard as he is a
three-year letterman and is one of the best half-milers in the
state.
Schedule for the 1928 season:
Oregon Relays, April 28, Eugene
Willamette Valley Meet, May 5, Eugene
OSC State Meet, May 12, Corvallis
Pacific University Meet, May 19, Forest Grove
