
Theatre Arts
This class is a comprehensive introduction to the theatre. Students will study
the origin and history of the theatre. We will read and/or watch important plays
from major periods and styles of drama. A brief overview of production
aspects--lighting, scene design, makeup, costumes, etc.--will be given. Students
will do a term project involving play production. Students will also study the
basics of acting, including voice, articulation, movement, characterization, and
performance. They will also focus on character development, memorization,
blocking, and production values. Students will select scenes for in-class or
semi-public presentation.
Theatre Ensemble
This is a performance class which will function as a repertory company preparing
and performing a full-length play or one-act plays and/or original material to
the public. Students will prepare and perform audition scene within the class.
Students may have the opportunity to see live performances of plays and tour
theatre facilities. Students will select scripts and/or write original material.
Some students and/or the instructor will direct. All students will be involved
in production from lights to costumes, from props to makeup. All students will
act, though there will be a few spots for students who are primarily interested
in technical theatre.
