6.     Student’s, the SANP-Sally Foster gift wrap is back!   Please come pick it up in the counseling center with Mrs. Gulledge.

7.     Today is the International Transgender Remembrance Day.  GSA-Gay and Straight Alliance is sponsoring a brief

“die-in” in the forum at first break to honor those people pushed to the outside edges of our culture and who were

victims of brutal violence, all due to the fact that there was confusion about their gender.   Often, by the age of 18

years, a person with transgender issues is figuring it out and they come to find that they are going to be okay.  It is

usually the confusion of those around them who don’t understand the issues that cause serious emotional and physical

harm.  Every year 1 in 60,000 births result in a human being coming into the world with ambiguous genitalia and/or gender

confusion.  If you combine the number of births with Down syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis, this would be the number of our population with a gender mis-assignment.  Many people don’t know how to behave or react around someone who is

transgendered.  What is important to remember is that no matter how many chromosomes line up (xx, xy, xxy) what they

all add up to is a human being deserving of respect and understanding no matter the confusion.   Finally, you might wonder

why this is such an important activity in a high school.   Please know that some of your classmates, past and present are

dealing with these very issues and your understanding is important to their well being.   Thank you for making CHS a

safe place for everybody to learn.   This message is sponsored by the CHS Gay and Straight Alliance.
