Since the inception of the Kids Helping Kids program in 1993, high school students in the Willamette Valley have raised nearly $500,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene, Oregon. For the seventh straight year, Corvallis High School has the opportunity to support this tremendous charitable organization through the Mr. Spartan Pageant. The students of CHS raised nearly $35,000 last year, and this year the committee has its sights set on raising $30,000. To accomplish this ambitious and worthy goal they will need your help.
What will you see at the Mr. Spartan Pageant? Each Mr. Spartan contestant will perform in a professionally choreographed dance number, model in a tuxedo, perform a skit, introduce his mother, and give impromptu answers to questions. Mr. Spartan will be selected by a panel of community members acting as judges. Come join the excitement!! [home] [top]
The next project the Visual Arts class is to find sponsors in the community to provide wooden chairs or stools. Student artists will interview sponsors about the use of the chair, and will submit two designs to the sponsor. Once a design is selected, the stool will be sanded, primed, painted, and sealed with lacquer.
Chairs may require research for color and design to reflect the artist’s conception of the sponsor’s idea. Chairs might illustrate nursery stories, or use colors to accent the location. The chairs may be used as window accents or as something more practical. In the past, students have painted chairs with themes such as a hot seat, the ocean, music, ancient Egypt, Mother Goose, the beach, hens, etc. It's fascinating to see a design develop from an idea into a final product. Watch for a CHS painted chair in a store near you.

Gift idea: Spartan wear for sale!
The Spart Mart, the Student Store, and Gift Shop are businesses operated by the CHS Small Business Management class for the benefit of the school. The students learn how to operate a business, and at the end of the year, profits generated from student business ventures are used to support CHS athletics. The Student Store operates a snack bar during morning breaks, as well as concessions during athletic events.
The Spart Mart, located in Room 101, offers a fine line of “Spartan wear” – sweat pants, sweatshirts (hooded or not), t-shirts, denim shirts, lanyards, hats, socks, and other items – for sale. Merchandise is available at some home athletic events. If you wish to purchase any of the Spart Mart’s fine items at other times contact Ron Sather or ask in the main office.
