  Spartan activities and athletics

The entire Corvallis High School staff welcomes you to another year of Spartan Sports and Activities — with a special welcome to our newest "Sparts." We encourage you to become involved in the many activities offered at Corvallis High. We believe that school-based activities are a significant avenue for extending the learning environment beyond the classroom. Activities and athletics are important in contributing to school climate and to a sense of community among students, staff, parents and other Corvallis citizens. As a member of a school team or activity, your behavior on campus, in the community and at other schools reflects on your program, your school and your self. We are looking forward to a wonderful year with personal, program and whole school successes. Be a part of this great place. Get involved!

Getting cleared for high school sports

Conditioning week beginning August 11 is optional. To start practice August 18, you must first be cleared for sports in the Activities Office (open beginning August 11 from 7:15-12 and 1 – 3:30). To be cleared for sports, each athlete must:

¨        Read and sign the code of conduct (with parents), including academic requirements, training rules, and citizenship expectations.

¨        Have a sports physical if a freshman or junior (also sophomores and seniors if no report is on file from the previous year).

¨        Pay an athletic user fee of $150. Checks should be payable to "Corvallis High School."

¨        Carry medical insurance.

If you do not have the forms required for fall sports, stop by the Activities Office.

Once school begins, each athlete's attendance will be monitored daily. Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. Grades will be checked every nine weeks to make sure that athletic eligibility is maintained. Involvement in high school sports can improve student grades and leadership skills.

Volunteers needed for sports

Successful activities take a lot of support and volunteer time. In the past, CHS has been fortunate to have terrific support for its sports programs. Help doing things like taking money, filming games, measuring distance at the long jump pit, and sometimes providing transportation, are all needed. Helping out can be fun, and is always appreciated. In the fall help is needed mainly at football and volleyball games. If you would like to help, please call Jan in the Activities Office at 757-5917. [home] [top]
