Bob Holt, athletic director

The fall season has been very interesting. As in the past we have had a very good turnout for athletic teams with over 300 students involved in soccer, volleyball, cross country and football. Our success on the field has been exceptional with our girls soccer team winning the league title, our boys soccer team in the middle of a tight race for a playoff position and our football team, assured of a winning season for the first time in years, in position to be in the playoffs. The cross country teams are looking forward to the district meet to find out who will advance to the state meet and our volleyball team has improved on last year’s record. The girls cross country team achieved the high grade point average of any cross country team in the state with a perfect 4.0 based on grades the prior semester. I am not sure that we can claim that running made them smarter but it's great to have athletes who bring meaning to the term student athlete.

As I look at our situation financially it becomes more and more apparent how much we depend on you for your support both financially and in your commitment of time. Our programs would not exist without all that you, our volunteers and parents bring to them. I thank you for making it possible for Corvallis High to have the programs we have. We will have to do some major fundraising to provide the resources to complete the year. This is something that no one looks forward to. It's difficult to ask for more when you have already given so much. We have some ideas regarding how this will be done but are always open to your thoughts.

An evaluation form for our athletic programs is included in this newsletter. If you have a son or daughter who has taken part in a fall sport, please take a few minutes to complete the form and return it to the athletic office to the attention of Bob Holt. We want to do all that we can to provide quality programs and your feedback is an important part of the evaluation process.

In looking forward to the winter sports season. We will be faced with many challenges but that is what life is all about so we roll up our sleeves and jump in. I am excited for our athletes because of the opportunities you have afforded them to compete in athletics. My door is almost always open so feel free to stop in and share your thoughts. I teach a block of math everyday and have various meetings to attend so to make sure you reach me call and set up a time. My number is 757-5920. Thanks again for your great support.

Winter sports pictures: will be taken during practice on Thursday, November 20. Hise Studio will be taking team and individual photos. Athletes do not need to bring money for their professional order. Proofs will be mailed to each athlete at their home and orders can be made after seeing the picture. Anyone wanting to order Booster Buttons needs to fill out the half sheet and pay Nov. 20 during the time of pictures. Checks can be made out to CHS Booster Club. The cost of each Booster Button is $3.00. This is a great way to support Booster Club and your athlete in this "fun" raiser. Please have order forms filled out before picture day. Coaches will be giving order forms to athletes during practice sometime during the week of November 17.

CHS Ski team

The Corvallis High School Downhill Ski Team has been around for many years, and is always looking for new skiers of any skill level to come join in the experience. Whether you snow plow or zoom down the slopes, we would love you to contact us to see if this could be the place for you. CHS Ski Team is a great place to learn to ski and improve your skills, become a part of a diverse, close-knit student community, ski affordably, be competitive, and, of course, have fun! If you think this could be a good match for you or someone you know, feel free to contact team parent Tom Birdseye at birdseye@proaxis.com, or student skiier Karen Hudson at miles_the_snail@hotmail.com or (541) 760-8429. We would be glad to answer any questions and provide you with information regarding upcoming team meetings and activities.
