End Of Text Ideas

I set up a role play situation with Geheime Mission. I have my students

assume the characters in the trial and i assign two of my best students to be

defense and prosecuting attorneys. The trial is to prove that Xaver Brunner,

the main character, is guilty of espionage. Last year, the trial lawyers

presented such an outstanding case that it lasted for 8 days. the lawyers

presented evidence from the story, cross-examined witnesses and made

objections to prevent evidence from being admitted to the trial. The jury was

members of my Level 4 and Level 5 classes who had read the story already. The

writing assignment was to provide the lawyers with what they, as the

characters, knew of the story. The oral performance was based on the

performance of the trial.

After the trial, the next major assignment for the students is Das mysteriöse

Konzert. Their assignment at the end of the reading is to develop a board

game which incorporates the facts of the story. Then we have a game day as

means of review for the story. It has worked well for both readings.
