Interview mit einer Puppe

As a final activity for the first 3 chapters of NEUE FREUNDE you are going to participate in an interview with a puppet.

The Pppet (Die Puppe)

You are to create a puppet using a paper sandwich-bag. All puppets must be based on this. You may be as creative as you which beyond this, however. Feel free to use colored pens and pencils, construction paper, cloth and material, clothing, yarn, wigs, things cut out from newspapers and magazines, etc. There are no limits on what you may do - the more creative the better. Create a personality that you can relate to. It may be a thematic personality (an athlete, a rock star, etc.), a real or fictional person (Michael Jackson, Homer Simpson, etc.) Be sure practice using the puppet. You should feel at ease with the way it appears and the way it feels on your hand. 25 points of the total of 175 come from the time you spend creating this PUPPE.

The Script (der Text)

You are to write a script for you interview. This script should reflect between

2 1/2 - 3 minutes of questions and answers. You may choose to interview your puppet for the entire time, or to take turns asking your puppet questions and having your puppet ask you questions. You may also choose to interview your puppet for 90 seconds, and then have your puppet interview you for 90 seconds. You are to use as much vocabulary as you have learned in the class so far (chapters 1=4). You will not be allowed to use the script during your interview. The script is for preparation only - to ensure that you take the time to think out what you are going to say. It serves the purpose of a written activity for this assessment. Make 2 copies of the script - one to turn in the period before you present the interview and one to keep for your own use. 50 points of the total of 175 come from the time you spend creating the script.

The Interview (Das Interview)

The actual interview will be presented in front of Herr Curtis or a video camera. You are to speak clearly and loud enough to be understood. You do not need to move the mouth of your puppet or put on any false voice for his/her personality. Doing so usually hinders good pronunciation. You will be given a time signal 2 minutes so you'll know how much longer you need to continue the interview. You may not use your script for the interview. Instead you may use a sheet of paper with no more than 50 words on it as notes. These words may be in German or in English or a combination of both. They may be in the form of complete sentences or questions, or simple, individual words to jog your memory. The essential components that you will be graded on are:

pronunciation / use of vocabulary / use of time (2 1/2 - 3 minutes) /

grammatical structures (word order, verb conjugation, etc.) /

flow of conversation (no unnatural pauses)

100 points of the 175 total points come from the actual presentation of the interview.
