Mau Mau is a card game very similar to UNO or CRAZY 8s. The important words to learn are the names for the cards. While the game is supposed to be played only with the cards from 7 - Ace, we will be using the entire deck, so that we have enough cards to even play.

Things to say when playing specific cards.

2 of hearts (for example)	Ich spiele die 2-Herz (I'm playing the 2 of hearts.
7 of any suit	Ziehe 2 Karten (Draw 2 cards)
8 of any suit	Du musst aussetzen - (You have to sit out)
9 of any suit	Andere Richtung (Reverse)
Bube of any suit	Wünschkarte - (then call out the name of the suit you want it to be)
When you must draw a card from the deck	Ich muss eine Karte ziehen (I have to draw a card)
When you hear another player speaking English	Du hast Englisch gesprochen. Ziehe 2 Karten.
When someone forgets to say Mau or Mau Mau on their next to the last or last card	Ziehe 2 Karten!

The rules for playing the game go like this (similar to Uno or Crazy 8s): Deal 5-7 cards to each player, depending on how large the group is. Place the remaining cards in the center, turning one card up. The player to the left of the dealer plays first by following the suit or number. If a player cannot put down a card, he/she must draw one.

If a 7 is played, the next player must draw 2 cards. (and cannot lay any down) This player can avoid having to draw 2 cards if he can play a 7. If this happens, the next player must draw 4 cards (unless he can play a 7)
If an 8 is played, the next person misses his/her turn.
If a player plays an Ace, he may lay down an extra card
If a player plays the King of Hearts the next player must draw 3 cards and can lay no cards down. He may not counter the move by playing a 7.
When a 9 is played, the direction of play switches. This is not one of the original rules, but it does add a little more fun to the game.

The Buben are Wünschkarten, like the Wild cards in Uno. You are not allowed to play a Bube on top of another Bube: "Bube auf Bube stinkt".
If a player speaks any English during he game, he/she must draw 2 cards.
When a student gets down to one card, he/she must yell, "Mau" If not, another player can call it. Then the player with one remaining card must draw two cards
When a player plays his/her last card, he/she must say "Mau Mau". If not, another player can call it. Then the player playing the last card must draw two cards.

The object of the game is to get rid of all your cards.

If you are left with cards in your hand, you must add up the point values of these cards. If you play more than one game, the winner is the player with the lowest number of points.
