                                                                             The Puma was a Brazilian sports car that was built from 1964 to 1985. Although Pumas were built after 1985 by a company called Araucaria and later by Alfa Mateis (1985-92), they were never able to re-create the success of the earlier Pumas. There were several different engines used for the Puma, with the largest production run using the Air Cooled Volkswagen 4 cylinder engine. I think it proved to be the perfect engine for this great car. It was inexpensive and easy to work on, easy to maintain, and with a little effort it could be turned into a powerful engine. The Puma produced from 1968-85 was easily the most popular. The Puma was offered in a convertible form (GTS or GTC) or Coupe form (GTE or GTI). Both had a traditional Italian look, with VW reliability and reminded many of the Porsche 356.
