It is important to realize that global warming is not something that is beyond our control. If we are truly the cause, then our actions can also lessen its effects. Today we will start to look at some of the things that we can do to lower our impact.
Wednesday, 11/4/09
We will finish the Greenhouse Effect Lab in class today.
We will also look at the difference between the greenhouse effect and ozone layer depletion.
Monday, 11/2/09
Today we are going to finish watching An Inconvenient Truth.
We will also start an investigation into the Greenhouse Effect.
Wednesday, 10/14/09
We will start out this week with time to wrap up the pendulums lab.
We will then move on to some opportunities to try your experimental design techniques to answer some questions that deal with significant real world problems.
Friday, 10/9/09 and Monday, 10/12/09
No school...enjoy the break!
Monday, 10/5/09 and Wednesday, 10/7/09
This week we will focus on the Pendulums Lab and the scientific method.
Friday, 10/2/09
Today we will start looking at what will be a main focus for the entire year. We are going to start thinking about how we can solve problems with the scientific method. We will use a Pendulums Lab to start looking into how we can use experimentation to determine how two things are affected by each other.
Wednesday, 9/30/09
Finish Lab in a Bag
Monday, 9/28/09
Today we will finish up the Potatoes Au Floatin' lab.
Next we will start looking at what happens to some of the things that we have measured when a chemical reaction occurs. To do this, we will use the Lab in a Bag.
Friday, 9/25/09
Wrap up lab work that was not completed on Monday or Wednesday.
Check on missing assignments.
Wednesday, 9/23/09
Today we will continue looking at neutral buoyancy. We will calculate densities and manipulate the density of water by adding salt.
The worksheet is Potatoes Au Floatin'
Monday, 9/21/09
Today we will begin a week of discussion about what makes something float. We will be examining neutral buoyancy with the Buoyancy Bull's-Eye Lab.
Friday, 9/18/09
Before we can start using some of the materials in labs, we need to discuss safety in the laboratory.
Wednesday, 9/16/09
You will need to wrap up your measurements and calculations for the number of M&M's in the jar. Your final guess is due at the end of the class period today.
Monday, 9/14/09
We will wrap up the measurement lab today with a discussion of determining volume by water displacement. Both methods for determining volume will be useful for the next lab.
Using what we have learned about measurement, we will Guess How Many M&M's are in the jar.
Friday, 9/11/09
Today we will be going over some of the classroom procedures that will be important for this year.
We will be starting the Measurement Lab today.
Wednesday, 9/8/09
Course introductions and department policies will be covered. Everyone will be introduced to the chemistry room and the lab area.
DEMOS!
As homework for this first day, students are to do the following two things for the next scheduled class period:
