Unit 8 Assignment (due April 1)
Carbon Footprint Activity
Calculate your carbon footprint here: http://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx
1. Record your results for each category. For the home calculation, take the total and divide by the number of people in your home - this is your contribution. Record your total footprint.
2. Record your immediate family results for each category. Record your family total.
3. Summarize your findings. Was your footprint what you expected? What about your family footprint? Did the way the values were calculated seem reasonable? Explain.
4. Visit another site (try perhaps http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/) and record your results again. Were the results the same? If they weren't, what might account for the differences? In your opinion, which of the two calculators was more accurate? Explain.
5. What are some ways suggested by the websites to offset your carbon footprint?
6. What are some actions you have already taken to reduce your carbon footprint? What are some actions you could take in the future?
