ESPAÑOL 1 ¡BIENVENIDOS
A ESPAÑOL 1! Sra. Crotti 757-44800
teddi.crotti@corvallis.k12.or.us
Objective: Students will attain a measurable degree of
communicative competency and demonstrate progress toward the Oregon
Benchmark 2 level of proficiency in each of the four language skills: listening,
speaking, reading, and writing.
Students will attain the aforesaid language skills in an interesting and stimulating context.
Students
will learn about the countries and cultures of those who speak Spanish.
Text: The basic textbook is Juntos
Uno, which is supplemented by a workbook, tape activities, videos
and magazines. Cultural material is included through readings, music, and
videos.
Grading: Students will be responsible for attending and
participating in class and completing class assignments, homework, and
projects. Grades are assigned on the basis of:
Grade equivalences: A=90-100% B=80-89% C=70-79% D=60-69% F=0-59%
(You must earn at least a C (70%)
to go on to Spanish 2.)
QUIZZES and TESTS (60% of
final grade)
Quizzes, tests and projects
may be written and/or oral. Make-up tests and quizzes will be given for
excused absences only. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for a
make-up test or quiz within a week’s time. A late project will be docked 10%
of its grade for each day it is late and will not be accepted after
one week.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS and
Projects (30% of final grade)
Written assignments must
be completed on time and are a basic requirement of this class. These
assignments are checked and corrected at the beginning of the period.
You are responsible for correcting your own work to receive full credit. Carelessly
done, incomplete, late or copied work will not be accepted. Late work will
be accepted with an excused absence only within one week. If you
are absent, it is your responsibility to find out about missed assignments.
They will be posted.
CLASS PARTICIPATION (10%
of final grade)
This is an activity-based
class that requires your active participation. Your participation grade is
based on your participation in class activities and completion of in-class
assignments. If you are absent, you are expected to make up classroom work. If
absence is unexcused, no credit will be given for make-up work.
Daily attendance is crucial
because most class activities are oral and difficult to make up. Regular attendance
and participation in Spanish with students and the teacher are essential to
building proficiency. If you are absent, you are responsible for getting notes
and assignments from a classmate and talking to me immediately upon return to
class. The CHS attendance policy outlined in your student handbook will be
adhered to. (4 unexcused absences = credit denial, more than 10 minutes
late to class = unexcused absence)
SUPPLIES NEEDED: A spiral notebook for Spanish only-to keep
notes and for writing activities; a separate folder or section in your
binder- for handouts and returned work; index cards- which will be
cut into halves or quarters to make vocabulary flashcards; a new 45 minute cassette
tape clearly labeled with your name and class period; a dry-erase pen;
colored pencils.
Come to class on time
every day. Be quiet and in your seat
when class begins. If a tardy is excused, bring a note from the attendance
office. More than 10 minutes late= an absence.
Come to class prepared to
learn. Bring your required materials
every day-
1) flashcards 2)COVERED text 3) workbook 4) spiral notebook 5)folder/notebook
Be respectful of each
other and the group as a whole. Help
each other. Everyone learns at a different rate and in a different way. There
is no place for ridicule. If a fellow student is causing problems or
interfering with your learning, please bring it to my attention. Disruptive and
discourteous behavior that wastes class time is unacceptable. Swearing,
name-calling, unkind remarks, cheating and damage to or disrespect for
classroom property will not be tolerated.
Do your best. In this class you will be learning to speak Spanish.
The only way this can happen is if you are here speaking in Spanish as much as
possible. You will make mistakes and that’s O.K. You are only expected to give
your best effort to practice and speak. By actively participating-individually
and on group projects, volunteering, asking questions and making observations
in Spanish you will progress more quickly. Failure to observe the above class
guidelines (i.e. Arriving late, not having materials, reading or writing
anything that does not pertain to this class, putting books away before class
has ended, talking while I am teaching, etc.) is disruptive to the learning
environment and unacceptable.
(Eating or drinking in the classroom is not allowed either.)
If you do not understand
something, ask. If you do not want to ask in class, ask me after class. If you
ever feel that you need some additional help with material covered in class or
have any concerns, please see me immediately. Do not let the little doubts go
until they become big problems. If you have a problem, talk to me about it and
together we will work it out.
EXPECTATIONS 1)
BE ON TIME EVERY DAY.
2)
BE PREPARED TO LEARN.
3)
RESPECT YOURSELF, OTHERS, AND PROPERTY.
4)
SUPPORT THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
I
understand and agree to abide by these guidelines.
