v           US Representatives

Each member of Congress has a home page on the World Wide Web. Find the Web site for your congressperson* at http://www.house.gov or http://www.senate.gov. Choose a member of Congress from your state, and review any information about that person. Write a report that includes basic biographical information (age, home town, education, family, etc.), your congressperson's stand on at least one important issue, and information about how constituents (people they represent) can contact the senator or representative if they have concerns.

*To find your representative you must know your zip code + 4 number. To find this visit this web site. http://www.usps.gov/ncsc/lookups/lookup_zip+4.html and follow the directions. Then using your information you may find your representative at this site. http://www.house.gov/zip/ZIP2Rep.html.

You can find your senator by going directly to the senate site listed above.

v           State Government

Visit the Oregon State web site at http://www.oregon.gov/. Click on the Government icon, click on state government. Click on elected officials. Once you get to each of these sites, you will have to look for icons that will help you find the information you need. Look for icons that will help you (example: about us, Oregon’s treasurer). Sometimes you will have to scroll down the page to find what you need.

Use the information you find here to complete the following assignments. All assignments must be typed.

·        State Senate

§         How many members are in the State Senate?

§         How often does the State Senate meet?

§         Who is your state senator? Click on the ‘Find Your Legislator’ icon.

·        State Representative

·        How many members are in the House of Representatives?

·        How often does the House of Representatives meet?

·        Who is your state representative? Click on the ‘Find Your Legislator” icon.

·        How long is their term of office?

·        When is the next election?

·        Find and briefly report on two items that are currently being discussed in the Oregon House of Representatives.

The City of Corvallis and Benton County web sites will help you answer the following questions. You may need to do some additional research.

·         Who is the city mayor?

·         How long is the mayor’s term of office?

·         What is a ward?

·         What ward do you live in?

·         Who is your city councilperson?
