Can Transfers be Revoked?

Yes, transfers are conditional.  Once approved, an in-district transfer will ordinarily remain in effect until the student completes the highest grade in the school; the student's parent requests that the transfer be rescinded; or school administrators revoke the transfer for reasons such as erratic attendance, unsatisfactory academic performance, or substantial misconduct.  If a school’s capacity is exceeded and overcrowding is occurring and increasing, the district may need to revoke students attending on a transfer to make space for new boundary area students.

Students transferring from outside the district are subject to the same conditions for revoking transfers.  However, there is no guarantee that the transfer will remain in effect until the student completes the highest grade in the school.  State law requires that out-of-district transfers must be approved on an annual basis. Students will only be accepted when there is available space in those classes the student would be attending and when the resident district agrees to pay for any extraordinary expenses associated with meeting the student’s needs.

Parents may request that a transfer be rescinded at any time.  Such requests will be effective at the end of the grading period for elementary school students and at the end of the semester for middle and high school students unless the assistant superintendent and the principals involved agree to implement the request sooner.  Transfers back to the home school during the school year will be subject to the maximum school size.  Return transfers between school years will not be subject to the enrollment capacity provisions.
