Services
Sharon Gibson

oversees all food service operations.
Food Service strives to ensure all students have
affordable and nutritious food offerings and to promote
nutrition education for life-long health habits and readiness to
learn.
Corvallis
School District Food Service participates in the National School
Lunch and Breakfast Program. State and Federal regulations
mandate nutrition requirements as well as portion sizes. The
goal is to provide at least 1/3 of the recommended dietary
allowance for children of the various age groups. Meals must
meet standards regarding calories, protein, vitamin A and C,
calcium, and iron. No more than 30 percent of the calories in
each item can come from fat, and less than 10 percent of the
calories can come from saturated fat. The menus are analyzed on
a nutrition software program to meet those goals.
The Food
Services Department has developed a partnership with Farm to
School to provide fresh, local produce to the menu. Fresh
tasting vegetables and fruits, along with educating the children
increases consumption. Healthy eating habits lead to healthy,
active, educated children. Food is not just about nutrition,
anymore. Healthy food is also about the environment and other
important social issues.
As part of
the School Wellness Committee, our vision is for families and
the community to value and support the central role that schools
play in promoting our children’s health. To this end, student
and staff wellness shall be promoted through the district’s
educational and meal programs and related activities.
