Nutritional Analysis
As we grow increasingly aware of the importance of eating right,
more of us are looking at what is in the foods we consume. We
are especially concerned about what our children eat. This is
something the Corvallis School District Food Service Department
supports and encourages. Therefore, we are supplying you with
the nutritional analysis for the foods we serve our students.
According to the USDA, menus must meet nutrition goals when
averaged over a school week. Menus must be analyzed for nutrient
content using USDA-approved software. The nutrient analysis of
planned menus must meet nutrient requirements for the age/grade
group served when averaged over a week for the nutrient
standards based on the 1989 Recommended Dietary Allowances for
key nutrients, calories, and 1995 Dietary Guidelines measures.
Nutrient-Based Menu Planning allows flexibility in selecting
foods and responding to customer preferences. It may be easier,
for example, to provide vegetarian and ethnic selections. This
flexibility might make planning within a budget easier, too.
This nutritional analysis was developed using the December 2009
menu and the NutriKids Nutritional Analysis software. It is easy
to find the rotation by looking at any month's menu and finding
the corresponding choices on the analysis. Our menus are set up
on a four-week rotation, though occasionally, we will move items
around due to school scheduling or specials. When the menu
changes or we add new types of foods, then a new four-week
rotation menu will be analyzed.
Student nutrition is our priority.
