Hoover Elementary Hayes R.E.A.D. Dogs Two Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) and their adult trainers provide individual attention to 1st and 2nd grade readers for half an hour each week. Students read to the dogs and trainers provide support and give suggestions for effective reading strategies.   Hayes Parent Reading Helpers Every week, parents read with children for half an hour to 50 minutes. Volunteers write a short evaluation of each student's reading and offer suggestions to improve fluency. They help students select books, encourage reader and provide individual attention. none entered    
  Hayes Reading Buddies 1st and 2nd grade students meet with 3rd graders in Mrs. Reid's class for reading/art/literacy for half an hour each week. Buddies attend a play together at Linn Benton Community College; every year they have a joint picnic at Walnut Park in June. none entered    
  Hayes Recycling With adult volunteers, students in 1st and 2nd grade collect paper and plastic recycling once a week for classes K-2. Teams are assigned to each of the 8 classrooms, the office and the Parent Work Center. Recyclable materials are placed in containers for pick-up by Corvallis Disposal's recycling crew. none entered    
  Hayes Birthday Bash Students perform "Birthday Bashes" for other 1st and 2nd grade students in this class only. Parents purchase "Bashes" for their children in the class for $18.
