MS Word Foreign Language Keyboard Setup

  1. Open MS Word 97.
  2. Select Insert from the menu bar and select Symbol.
  3. Click on the down-arrow and select Normal text.
  4. Click on a symbol such as the upside down question mark used in Spanish.
  5. Click on the Shortcut Key button.
  6. With the cursor located In the "Press New Shortcut Key" box, press the Insert button on your keyboard. Ins will now show in the box. If you already have a shortcut assigned in the shortcut key box and you want to assign something different, click once on the shortcut keys that are assigned and click the Remove button.
  7. Press the Shift question mark keys to add a question mark to the box. You can use any key, it doesn’t have to be a question mark. I used a question mark because the key I’m wanting to type is the upside down question mark.
  8. Click the Assign button.
  9. Repeat steps 2-8 for to assign additional keys.
  10. Click the Close button.

Now, when you want to type an upside down question mark in MS Word, press the Insert and Shift Question Mark keys.
