Basic Technology Skills
Select the specific skills for your benchmark level:
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) has adopted Common Curriculum Goals, but have not yet established specific content standards and benchmarks for technology skills. Meanwhile, ODE is encouraging each school district to develop their own content standards and benchmarks around their individual needs and technology resources.
The following revisions to ODE's Technology Common Curriculum Goals were adopted by the State Board in March 2002:
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of technological tools and devices..
- Select and use technology to enhance learning and problem solving.
- Access, organize and analyze information to make informed decisions, using one or more technologies
- Use technology in an ethical and legal manner and understand how technology affects society.
- Design, prepare and present unique works using technology to communicate information and ideas.
National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) have also been developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
A group of Corvallis School District teachers and staff members collaborated to produce lists of essential technology skills at benchmark levels. These documents were developed, using both ODE Common Curriculum Goals and the NETS standards, as well as references from other school districts and prior Corvallis School District documents.
We believe these basic skills are the foundation for using technology in ALL curriculum areas.
