Emergency Information

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND FAMILY

NOTE: This page may be used to provide important information during periods of emergency

If an emergency strikes while your child is in school…

  • Your school has a plan - Each school has a disaster preparedness plan. Teachers, administrators, staff and students have trained and completed drills using this plan.
  • Students who leave school - If it is necessary for students to leave school following an emergency, school staff will follow an orderly plan to make sure that each child is released at a specified location on campus to a parent, relative or other person designated by the parent.
  • Students who remain at school - If a parent or designee cannot pick up children for an extended period of time following an emergency, students will remain under staff supervision until the parent/designee arrives at school. However, children should be picked up as soon as possible. If necessary, students may be moved to another school or off-campus site for greater safety.
  • Using the telephone - In an earthquake or other major emergency, telephones may not be operating. Lines also experience heavy use during an emergency and not work because they are overloaded. Please try to leave the phone lines open to allow the school to use them to obtain any emergency help they may need. If possible go to your school and pick up your child as soon as possible.
  • Radio - Radio stations will be called with information as soon as it is available. Please tune into one of the following stations for the latest update concerning the emergency. Instructions about where and/or how to find your child will be given.

      • KFLY 101.5 FM
      • KGAL 1580 AM
      • KRKT 990 AM or 99.9 FM
      • KLOO 1340 AM or 106.3 FM
      • KEJO 1240 AM
      • KSHO 920 AM
      • KWIP 880 AM (Hispanic Radio)
  • Television Cable Channel 28 will also give emergency information as soon as possible.
  • District Updates - Emergency information and updates, as possible, will be posted on the school district’s web site. The address is http://www.csd509j.net
  • Newspaper - Emergency information will appear in the Gazette Times newspaper.

Please keep your student’s information updated…The safety of students in an emergency is the priority of our district. Please be sure your child’s emergency information (home address, telephone, where to contact parents during the day, names of persons other than yourself who have permission to pick up your child) is updated whenever there is a change. If you have any questions about your school’s Emergency Preparedness Plan, please call your school office.
