Disaster Preparedness

What Can You Do? and It’s Up to You are programs developed by the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal. This health kit has selected lessons from those curriculum (extra lessons are filed in the back of the notebook). The CIMC has 8 copies so that each school can have a kit to share in the fall to complement Unit 1 in the Houghton-Mifflin reading curriculum. The 4 lessons are designed to review earthquake preparedness in the classroom and home, explore the science of earthquakes, learn about tsunami preparedness, and create home emergency kits. The homework component has students doing a home quake safety analysis and creating a disaster plan and emergency supplies kit. This health kit has a teacher notebook and a set of tsunami brochures representing 5 Oregon coastal communities.
