Dual Language Immersion

Corvallis Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program Goals:

 All students will…

  • Be at or above grade level.
  • Develop high levels of proficiency in their first language
  • Develop high levels of proficiency in a second language.
  • Demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors.

DLI Program Components:

  • 50/50 Program where 50% of the instruction is to be delivered in Spanish from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
  • A simultaneous literacy program will be implemented.  Students will learn to read in English and Spanish simultaneously beginning in Kindergarten.  
  • At the elementary level, Native Spanish and native English speakers will receive English Language Development (ELD) or Spanish Language Development (SLD) for a minimum of 30 minutes per day in order to develop oral language, key vocabulary for thematic units and basic concept knowledge to better understand concepts being taught in the student’s second language.
  • Strict separation of languages for instruction (no translation).
