Special Education Advisory Committee

The Corvallis School District’s Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) was established in 1979.  Its members include parents and community members, with the district’s Assistant Superintendent serving as advisor. 

The purpose of the committee, as set forth in the by-laws:
    -  To act as a resource group to the Corvallis School District providing suggestions for improvements in special education services;
    -  To serve in a consultative capacity to aid in the development of programs that will enhance the education of all students; and
    -  To enhance communication among parents, site councils, school district administration, directors, staff, and the community of Corvallis with regard to special education issues.

2012-13 MEETING SCHEDULE
SEAC meetings are open public meetings.  They are held at the Western View Center, 1435 SW 35th Street, next door to the District Office.  Anyone interested in special education is welcome to attend.

            September 26             12:00-1:30 p.m.
            October 17                     6:00-7:30 p.m.
            November 28              12:00-1:30 p.m.
            January 16                     6:00-7:30 p.m.
            February 20                 12:00-1:30 p.m.
            March 20                        6:00-7:30 p.m.
            April 17                         12:00-1:30 p.m.

WHAT'S NEW . . .

SEAC sponsors a number of activities throughout the year, including parent training opportunities through workshops, newsletter articles, and meetings.

NOVEMBER EDUCATION MEETING—Thursday, November 29, Jefferson School
Family and Community Together (FACT) will be presenting “The IEP”  What you Need to Know” through Oregon during November.  In this training, parents will

    -  Understand the IEP and how it is developed
    -  Learn more about their involvement in the process
    -  Hear tips and tools for being their child’s #1 fan and advocate
    -  Have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers
This meeting is held in collaboration with the Corvallis School District and SEAC.
