Board of Directors

The primary role of the Corvallis School Board is to establish policies and programs which will promote student learning and prepare students for life after graduation. This is accomplished in partnership with the schools superintendent and district staff who implement policies and programs, and through sound fiscal management of the district’s resources.  Board members are elected from the district at large to serve a term of four years.  The public is welcome to contact them individually using the contact information listed below or as a group by sending an email to:

How to Provide Input to the School Board   All emails to board members are considered public record. Others who will receive emails sent to the address above are the superintendent, assistant superintendent, Student Services director, Human Resources director, Business Services director, executive assistant to the superintendent and the school board administrative assistant.

Career experience: Hewlett-Packard Company for 28 years in software development, product management, and product support; retired in 2002.

Community Involvement: Volunteer for 11 years in Corvallis Public Schools, OSU Academy for Lifelong Learning, Majestic Theatre Management. 

Family: Wife, Marc, and three children—all three attended Corvallis Public Schools K-12; all three are teachers—one in science, one in social studies, and one in language arts.

Hobbies: Gardening, non-fiction reading, and both Sudoku and crossword puzzles.

Career experience: Researcher and manager with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Maryland and Washington, D.C. for 23 years; currently retired.

Community involvement:  Special Education Advisory Committee.

Family:  Partner, Mina McDaniel, and her two children – a seventh grader at Linus Pauling Middle School and a freshman at Corvallis High School; four cats, one dog, and eight chickens.

Hobbies/special interests: Reading, hiking and weight lifting.

Family:  Two grown daughters – One is a graduate student in Crop Science at OSU and the other is a junior at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA.

Hobbies/special interests:   Gardening, reading, and painting with watercolors.

Community involvement: Action Team Leader with the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition; Audit Committee, Coalition of Graduate Employees; Volunteer, Friends of Zumwalt Park.

Family: Wife Autumn; two daughters, the oldest will start at Lincoln Elementary in the fall of 2014.

Hobbies/special interests: Cooking, reading, committed bicycle commuter, hiking.

Career experience: Thirty years' federal civilian service as an acquisition manager, senior procurement official, and executive officer with NASA and as a technical advisor to the Auditor General of the U.S. Air Force; currently retired.

Community involvement: Served on the Corvallis School District Budget Committee and Special Education Advisory Committee; member of the Mid-Valley Bicycle Club, Willamette Valley Bicycle Team and the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association.

Family: Wife, Rebecca, and two children attending Cheldelin Middle School.

Hobbies/special interests: Reading, bicycling, Kinetic Sculpture racing, watching OSU football and soccer games.

Career experience: Secondary and university teacher for 10 years in Paris; Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State for 22 years serving in Japan, Central African Republic, Washington, D.C., Bangladesh, France, Sweden, Senegal and Belgium; currently retired.

Community involvement:  Board and executive committee member of Corvallis-OSU Symphony, board member and program director of Chamber Music Corvallis and have presented several programs at the Academy for Lifelong Learning (on music, life in the Foreign Service, the financial crisis in Europe, and North Korea).

Family: Wife, Kathleen, two grown children and a daughter who is a sophomore at Corvallis High School.

Hobbies/special interests:  Playing the piano, going to concerts, reading, hiking in the mountains.
