Board to Appoint Internal Interim for Superintendent Post - updated April 18, 2016

The Corvallis School Board held a special meeting on April 18, 2016 to formally accept the resignation of Superintendent Erin Prince and to determine a process and timeline to fill the vacancy created by her departure in August.  After considering the normal timing desired for a full search, Board members came to a consensus that the school district currently has quality internal candidates who can step in immediately, and serve as an interim Superintendent to allow the school board to stay the course on current business and not rush the process to conduct a full search.

At the meeting, board members reviewed the minimum qualifications for Superintendent, identified a process for public input, and voted on a salary range for the position. They agreed to a short timeline to fill the post with an interim candidate with a goal to announce their selection at the May 9 Board meeting.

Public input for this process will be available through a short survey available paper form at the district administration office and in school locations from April 19 through April 26 at 5:00 pm and at the following link: http://goo.gl/forms/AzIrIjjkAT. The board is seeking input from community members and staff to learn what they believe are the most important qualities for the Corvallis School District interim Superintendent. The public will also have an opportunity to provide input at the April 26 board meeting. The school board will then meet on April 28 to discuss and adopt the desired qualities of the new superintendent.

The timeline agreed to by the board will conclude with a May 9 vote for an interim Superintendent. “This is a pretty aggressive timeline,” according to Human Resources Director Jennifer Duvall. “Ideally, we would conduct a full search over the course of several months, typically starting in January.”

“We want this process to be transparent and we want as much public participation as possible,” notes School Board chairman Chris Rochester. “It’s important for our staff and school communities to know that we will continue to move forward with our key priorities. We have well qualified leaders within our current leadership to draw from in an internal search process.”

How to Provide Input to the School Board
