The Corvallis School District is pleased to announce three openings on the Budget Committee for citizen members. Community members interested in serving on this committee are invited to apply for an appointment by August 31, 2012.
To learn more about this opportunity, interested parties are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to be held August 27, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the Board Room of the Corvallis School District Administration Building, located at 1555 SW 35th Street, Corvallis, Oregon 97333. It is not necessary to RSVP for this event.
To apply for a position on the Budget Committee, submit a letter of interest and a brief resume no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2012. Oregon law requires districts to set up a Budget Committee, comprised of seven School Board members and seven community members. It is the responsibility of the Budget Committee to approve the proposed budget and send it to the School Board for adoption. The Budget Committee meets four to five times, primarily in late spring (April to June) at evening meetings; citizen members are also invited to attend and/or participate at certain Board meetings during the year when staff will update the Board on matters relating to the budget.
To be eligible for appointment, a school district Budget Committee candidate must: not be an officer, employee, or agent of the district, and must be a qualified voter of the district. Participation is voluntary. There are two three-year appointments and one one-year appointment vacant at this time.
The Board will be asked to appoint new members at the September 24 meeting.
