More than 300 runners and walkers turned out for this year’s Spring for Kids Run Saturday, March 10, making the ninth annual fundraiser for the Corvallis Public Schools Foundation a huge success.

CPSF director Brenda VanDevelder said a final tally was not yet available, but that the event raised more than $11,000, a 25 percent increase over last year’s run/walk. She also announced the individual and school awards, with the top three people in each race receiving medals:

2K (Males) – Erik Ventura, first; Alexander Nelson, second; Dennis Lippart, third
2K (Females) – Shawnee Arce, first; Mya Thornton, second; Katie Nelson, third

5K (Males) -- Coulter Rose, first; Keith Evenden, second; Mark Noll, third
5K (Females) – Colleen Pallari, first; Lural Ramirez, second; Amelia Ingersoll, third

10K (Males) – Lars Gjovik, first; Stafford Johnson, second; Sohel Khan, third
10K (Females) – Alexia Snyder, first; Kara Smith, second; April Turple, third

The coveted “Traveling Trophy” was awarded to Garfield Elementary and Cheldelin Middle schools for having the highest number of students and staff participating. Staff also was invited to enter teams of four in the 5K race. Team Lincoln won a celebratory Woodstock’s Pizza luncheon for having the lowest combined race time. Team members included Lural Ramirez, Shahnaz Sahnow, Rosie Crisostomo and Christina Torregros.

Over 60 volunteers helped manage registration, refreshments and course safety throughout the day. Dozens of other sponsors, as well as prize and refreshment donors, helped make the event a great experience for everyone involved.

The annual Spring Run for Kids is the foundation’s largest fundraiser and has provided more than $50,000 in grant funds for teachers and classrooms in Corvallis since it began in 2004.
