The Pink Pajama Peeps LEGO Robotics team from Linus Pauling Middle School recently took home a second place Google Project Presentation Award from the Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournament in Hillsboro.
The January competition drew nearly 120 top tournament-qualifying teams from across Oregon and southwest Washington. Each team of 9-14 year olds programmed their custom-made robot to compete on various robot missions, displayed their research presentation focused on this year’s theme of food safety, and presented to three panels of judges.
The Google Project Presentation Award is given to teams that effectively communicate their research problem and proposed solution to both the judges and other potential supporters. In their focus on food safety, the LPMS team’s research project was about increasing the safety of egg production. The Pink Pajama Peeps team includes Mischa Neal, Gabi Garza, Cypress Casprowiak, Phoebe Mallory, Kaiana Bradley, and Lyn Carson; their coaches are Joseph and Crystal Neal.
An elementary Lego Robotics team from Franklin K-8 School named Franklinstein brought home a first place prize from the same competition and will be representing the Corvallis School District at the upcoming state level competition.
