"Gentle Start" to Kindergarten

The start of school in the fall is different for kindergarteners than for other students. A “gentle start” approach is used to help students and teachers get to know each other on a more personal basis before the entire class meets together.
During the first week of school, kindergarten teachers will meet one-on-one with students and their parents to get acquainted and to perform a few quick, informal assessments. Then, kindergarteners will attend their first day of class along with just half of their classmates to allow their teacher more time to interact with each child and teach key skills necessary for success in kindergarten. After each half of the class goes through this orientation time, the entire class starts school together.
Parents should call their school office in late August to find out what day and time their child is to arrive at school the first time. All kindergarten classes will be in session by Sept. 11, 2013.
