Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergarten.

March is Kindergarten Registration month, when we open kindergarten enrollment for next fall. Parents may also complete their child's enrollment at any time after March 31. Parents are invited to attend the 2016 Kindergarten Information Night at their neighborhood school on Wednesday March 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Information night for Franklin K-8 will be held on Thursday, March 3, 6:30 - 7:30 pm. In addition, a classroom visit or school tour may be available, by appointment only, by calling the school office.

To register you will be asked to provide a copy of your child's birth certificate and immunizations records. You also may be asked to show proof of residency (e.g., a driver's license, rental/homeowner agreement, utility bill). If you are not sure which school boundary area you live in, you may call the district office at 541-757-5811 to find out where to register your child, or check out the School Boundaries page.

Transfer Requests

The district has established specific school boundary areas, but families may request a transfer to a school outside their attendance area after they have registered at their neighborhood school. Transfer requests will be accepted online March 1-31, but such requests are subject to grade-level enrollment and space limitations.  If a transfer is granted, parents are responsible for their child’s transportation and transfers may be rescinded in accordance with district transfer guidelines.  For more information about transfers, please see our Student Transfer page.

"Gentle Start" to Kindergarten

The start of school in the fall is different for kindergarteners than for other students. A “gentle start” approach is used to help students and teachers get to know each other on a more personal basis before the entire class meets together.

During the first week of school, kindergarten teachers will meet one-on-one with students and their parents to get acquainted and to perform a few quick, informal assessments. Then, kindergarteners will attend their first day of class along with just half of their classmates to allow their teacher more time to interact with each child and teach key skills necessary for success in kindergarten. After each half of the class goes through this orientation time, the entire class starts school together.

Schedules vary from school to school,  You will receive a letter between June and late August informing you of your child's "Gentle Start" schedule.
