SLOT ALLOCATIONS & TUITION

·       Available slots are allocated at the beginning of first semester to the high schools based on September projected enrollment figures from the business department, and will be revised in September based on the positive enrollment figures. Second semester slots are allocated based on actual enrollment figures. Unused first-semester slots will carry over to second semester.
·       Each school determines how they will use their slots with students using the established recommended criteria. and counselor discretion Our hope is that students first will be screened to determine if online learning is an appropriate match for their learning style and ability level. In most cases, students must have basic self-directed skills and be reading at grade level to be successful in the online course environment.

    Established Criteria

  •     - Non-attendees – Can’t serve in regular school based on health or behavior issues. (Assumes access to necessary technology.)
  •     - Credit deficiency - seniors, first priority, then juniors, then other students
  •     - Scheduling problems
  •     - Enrichment
·       Home/Private School slots will be served at the discretion of the CSD Online Coordinator.

·       Students new to online learning must complete one online course successfully to be considered for additional courses.
·       Students that wish to register for a course that is in excess of their allotted 7 credits must pay tuition. Tuition rates below are subject to change.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

·       Counselor and student complete the Alternative Learning Options and Online Registration Attachment, including appropriate signatures.
·       Completed forms are delivered to the District Office by each individual school's counseling department, or by the family in the case of a homeschool student. Proof of the homeschool status needs to accompany the registration form. Originals are retained by individual high school online personnel.
·       The District Office registers students in the appropriate program and sends Corvallis Online students a welcome email.  Emails include logging in instructions.
·       The District Office adds student information to the registration spreadsheet on the Shared drive.
·       Registration opens the third week in August for regular online courses and ends two weeks after the beginning of the fourth quarter.
·       Courses begin on the first day of school, or within three days of being registered after school begins.

·       Any registration the parent is paying for must be accompanied by a check payable to Corvallis School District; we do not bill.

CREDIT POLICY – home school
·        Each course = .5 credit

·        Home school (High School) students –
·        Private school(High School) students -

 ATTENDANCE & DROP/GRACE PERIOD

·     Each student has an initial 10-day grace period beginning from when a student is activated in the class.
·     The student may drop without cause and have no grade posted to their transcript if they drop within the 10-day grace period. They must work with their counselor so that the student receives a “no grade” and not an “F” for inactivity. Inactivity is defined as not logging in and demonstrating participation in the course.
·     The counselor informs Corvallis Online personnel of the drop.
·     Corvallis Online personnel ensure that the teacher is informed of the drop.
·     If student does not participate in the online class for 5 consecutive school days, parents will be contacted. After 10 consecutive school days the student may be dropped from the course and may receive a failing grade (fees will not be refunded).

·     Drops after three weeks will result in a grade of "F" as according to district policy.
·     See Sheet 2 of the spreadsheet (located on the Shared drive) for the Slot Allocations.

INCOMPLETE POLICY

(Requests for extension)

·    The counselor makes a request of the teacher on behalf of the student. They may make a direct request of the teacher or through Corvallis Online personnel.
·    The teacher has the discretion for honoring or denying the request.
·    The teacher informs the student, counselor, and Corvallis Online personnel of the decision.

·        Attendance - Kathleen Muravez (see Student Support below) is responsible for tracking attendance for all online students who are NOT at or above 7 credits (not counting their online classes). This is a huge task, but a necessary part of Alternative Education  programs.  This means noting whether a student exceeds 7 credits on the form is important and also an indicator to us that the parent (or the  school) plans to pay for the course.
