| Math |
We started the
Chapter on Data and Probability. Fun!!!! |
| Writing |
We worked on our
stories and are probably going to see some folks start
finishing this week. |
| Other |
Social Studies:
Our chapter title is "How Are We Alike Around the
World". We watched one part of the series Families
of the World. We saw how a nine year old girl lived
a day in Ho Chi Minh City. Tomorrow we'll learn
about a different girl who lives on the Mekong River.
I would highly recommend this series. the
Corvallis Library has the entire series. |

We earned
another Class Act in Music today. |
| Homework |
1. Work on
Multiplication Facts, at least, 20-30 minutes every
evening. Quiz on Thursday. |
 |
This was the
results of our Heads and Tails activity in which we
flipped two pennies 50 times for each partner group.
this is the total class results. The questions
is...Why is HT almost twice the number outcomes than HH
or TT?

| Attention! |
The Fraction
Chapter Test was sent home today. Fraction is the
most abstract of all the chapters in the text. The
results of the test definitely reflect the level of
abstraction. Some children are abstract thinkers
by third grade and others are still moving into that
stage. That's the context for evaluating your
child's score on the test. |

Worked on
summarizing another paragraph. |
| Math |
Talked about
Line Plots. We created two line plots in the
classroom. the first was looking at how many
activities, sports & lessons, that students were part of
outside of school. the range was 8 and the mode was 2.
After that we asked the question, "I wonder what kind of
activities students are involved in?" For this we
made a second line plot. This time we created
categories across the bottom such as Team Sports, Game
Clubs, Art, Dance, DI, Music Lessons, Individual
Lessons...etc. Ask which category had was the
highest number. |
| Writing |
We wrote some
more on our stories. Adelaide, Zach and Alyssa
shared their stories. |
| Social Studies |
We watched a DVD
about a family that lived on the Mekong River in
Vietnam. Ask about their unusual store. |

Introduced
another method of buddy reading. Each person only
reads one sentence and the other person reads the next
and so on. At the end of a paragraph both stop and
talk about what they just read. Not a method for
winning reading races but a great method for slowing
down and improving comprehension. |
| Math |
Computation
Quiz. We took it! Many students showed a lot
of progress! Keep up the good work! Many
students progressed to the next level. Mr. Traylor
said that if the entire class masters the multiplication
tables, he will buy the class a special treat.
Another good reason to keep truckin'. |
| Writing |
I presented a
lesson on Sentence Fluency. SF means that
sentences are varied in length, and structure.
Students brought home the sheet that contained part of
the lesson. Please look it over with your child
and have them explain it to you. |

Saw a video on
Thailand. this child lived in Bangkok, Thailand's
largest city. Ask your child about the floating
market place. |
| Homework |

corrected Computation Quiz. Which problems were
missed? What do you need to work on?
2. Work on Multiplication Facts, at least, 20-30 minutes
every evening. Quiz next Thursday.
3. Students brought home a Sentence fluency sheet that
contained part of the lesson. Please look it over
with your child and have them explain it to you.
4. Students also brought home an Inference Sheet.
Please ask your child to talk about that sheet also. |
