About Jefferson School Physical Education
Our goal in physical education is simple. We would like for students to engage in physical activity throughout their lifetime. At Jefferson School, we develop skills in a wide variety of of physical activities, and engage in fitness exercises to help children pursue a physically active lifestyle.
- Typically in our class we use a four part lesson that allows us to meet benchmarks in three categories:
- 1) Fitness for a Lifetime
2) Expressive and Efficient Moving
3) Self Management and Social Responsibility.
- Components of the Four Part Lesson:
- 1) Introductory Activity (2-3 min.) - This part of the lesson prepares children for physical education. It provides them with immediate activity upon entering the gym.
2) Fitness Development (7-8 min.) - The purpose of this activity is to develop physical fitness- cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.
3) Lesson Focus (12-15 min.) - This is the heart of the lesson, and it focuses on skill development.
4) Game Activity (5-7 min.) - This activity is the forum for applying skills, and developing sportsmanship and team play.
