Week of May 22-25, 2009- What Am I?

·        I am a unique kind of crustacean that lives on land. Most other crustaceans - like lobsters and crabs – live in water.

·        I am part of a special group of crustaceans called isopods – which means equal foot – because all my feet are the same shape.

·        My scientific name is Armadillidium vulgare.  But some people call me a “wood louse”.

·        I play the role of a decomposer in the food chain by eating rotting plant material and returning nutrients to the soil.

·        I breathe through gills, not lungs, which is why I really need a home that is moist.

·        I am most commonly found under rocks, logs, leaf piles and other places that dark and moist.

Week of May 18-May 22- Answer is Chocolate
